ARTIST STATEMENT
My aim is to project energy and images with abundant focus. I choose not only to enlighten but also to engage. I create highly stylized situations in which visual elements are equal in value to action. Body, object, space and time - these are the materials I use to create various hybrids of art, dance, and drama. Conventions of theater are my point of departure for blending the abstract with the concrete. Expectation, seduction, surprise, and illusion are common devices within my work. I often touch on subjects such as insatiability, materialism, conformity, and alienation. The human form is essential to my work, as is evident in my Butoh inspired creations. Interest in site-specificity led me to create, Air Pocket(s), a performance that took place in rural Estonia; as well as, Sharp Departure, a performance on a school bus. I feel equally satisfied presenting work in unique locations as I do in professional theaters or galleries of art.
